Leonardo DiCaprio knows how to choose his roles. That much is certain. This is true despite the fact that his biggest acting award, the famous Oscar, has long eluded him. Among his best performances was undoubtedly his portrayal of Jay Gatsby in the 2013 film “The Great Gatsby,” based on the novel by Frances Scott Fitzgerald.
A Little About the Author
First, a little about the world-renowned author of this wonderful novel. Francis Scott Fitzgerald was born into an Irish immigrant family in the small town of St. Paul, Minnesota. This has influenced his work in part. Initially, he was more passionate about football than his studies in school, but a teacher saw a talent for writing in him and began to motivate and encourage him. Francis was hooked and began attending Princeton University. He also became a member of a prominent cottage club. His desk still hangs in the study of their mansion. But then World War I broke out, and Fitzgerald decided to enlist. He wrote his first book, “The Romantic Egoist,” which was sometimes accompanied by a fear of death. Upon his return, he fell in love with a woman named Zelda Thayer. But she was too poor to marry, so he revised his novel and suddenly “On the Threshold of Paradise” began selling thousands of copies. There he made money and married Zelda, but Zelda was used to a different standard of living and Francis had to start working as a newspaper columnist. Their marriage, however, was not a happy one. Eventually Fitzgerald became a notorious alcoholic and Zelda developed schizophrenia. Both were jealous of each other\’s professional success and used material from their own lives in their works. For example, in her novel Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald deals with the love affair between a psychiatrist and his patient. Zelda attended an expensive mental hospital, which led the Fitzgeralds into a series of debts. Francis had no choice but to become a screenwriter in Hollywood. Because of his unhealthy lifestyle, he suffered a second heart attack at the age of 44. Although not a highly regarded writer during his lifetime, he is now considered one of the greatest writers in American history
